The National Radioactive Waste Coalition (NRWC) is a coalition of about 40 groups, impacted by the presence of radioactive waste located throughout the United States. It is committed to stopping the production, reprocessing, and transporting of high-level radioactive waste across the country without a permanent solution for the storing of high-level nuclear waste. The National Coordinating Committee (NCC) is made up of NRWC member group delegates and provides direction for the campaign. Access to high-speed, stable internet is required.Our work is grounded in respect for all people. Together, we work to hold the nuclear industry and government agencies accountable for their decisions and actions. We advocate for the responsible handling of radioactive waste to keep us all as safe as possible. We work in accordance with the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing.

Job Opportunity: Coordinator, National Radioactive Waste Coalition

The ideal candidate will demonstrate these qualifications and traits:

Roles:
  1. Internal and external coordination
    1. Facilitating meetings, and organizing the facilitation of meetings
      1. This includes setting the agendas, managing the list serve, and facilitating communication among NRWC committees and other NRWC working groups. Managing Google Drive.
    2. Outreach
      1. Expand the Coalition through outreach and targeted recruitment of new member organizations; build solidarity networks with groups including but not limited to Indigenous groups and tribes, communities and groups located near decommissioning sites, anti-nuclear groups and the broader environmental movement related to (but not limited to) energy development, wildlife, and agriculture.
  2. Policy research and advocacy
    1. Work with the coalition to update strategy plans and work with members to identify new methods for grassroots activism and policy.
    2. Travel to relevant events and conferences and represent the coalition. Lobby coalition goals and principles to decision makers.
    3. Work with the Media coordinator to manage new member applications.
Structure:
  1. The Coalition Coordinator will report directly to the NCC. The NCC will choose a Liaison to provide direction and communication to the coordinator.
  2. Write concise regular reports with updates to NRWC members on work completed, on the NRWC Plan and possible recommended actions, and conduct needed research/assessments as assigned.
  3. NCC will develop timelines and deadlines with coordinator for task management.
  4. 12 month contract
  5. $25/hour 16-24 hours per week (flexible)
Candidate Qualifications:
  1. Educational Requirements
    1. Flexible. Educational background in relevant topics or equivalent experience in community engagement and grassroots organizing.
  2. Knowledge/Training
    1. Familiarity with nuclear waste policy, or ability to independently learn. Knowledge of and demonstrated operational ability to use online platforms including: Google Drive and Zoom.
    2. Demonstrated understanding of U.S. policy, environmental justice, and/or nuclear issues.
    3. Ability to travel (financed by coalition).
    4. Demonstrated experience in grassroots organizing, community engagement, and campaign management.
    5. Strong speaking and written communication skills.
    6. Demonstrated capacity for flexibility, working independently and adapting to unforeseen circumstances.
    7. Comfortable reaching out to new people, who may not share the same social, cultural, language, gender identity, economic status, or regional identity.

Job Opportunity: Media Coordinator, National Radioactive Waste Coalition

The NRWC is looking for a Media Coordinator to develop graphics and maintain social media profiles for the coalition. The Media Coordinator will be a project-based position, and will be expected to attend meetings with NRWC members and collaborate on materials. The Media Coordinator will be responsible for envisioning ew project ideas and content, based on discussions, current events/issues, advocacy and outreach needs, etc.. The Media Coordinator will be expected to have a strong familiarity with grassroots activism, Environmental Justice, and/or nuclear issues. The Media Coordinator will also support administrative tasks, collaborating with the Coordinator and Website Designer. 

Media production:
  1. Social media marketing (Instagram, Facebook).
  2. Graphics development (in-person and digital campaign materials).
  3. Support website management.
Advocacy:
  1. Event marketing.
  2. Sharing member group events and managing virtual calendars.
Structure:
  1. Work under the supervision of the NCC and collaborate with other coordinators.
  2. Develop a project plan and timeline with NCC, with deadlines for particular projects (with flexibility for unforeseen graphics needs).
  3. $25/hr, 8-16 hours per week
Candidate Qualifications:
  1. Background in social media marketing for activism focused campaigns.
  2. Ability to work flexibly with a coalition with different experiences and background in social media platforms.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of policy, grassroots activism, community engagement, and Environmental Justice.
  4. Graphic design abilities (Canva minimum, Adobe Programs are a plus).
  5. Demonstrated capacity for flexibility, adaptability.
  6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
